In my previous post we chatted about the Norms and a little about the Zealots. Today let’s have a chat about the Zealots. Long ago I came to realize that Zealots lived in a very strict world whether they admit it or not.
Galatians 8; For you have heard of my conversation in time passed, in the Jewish religion, how that I persecuted the Church of God extremely, and wasted it, *and profited in the Jewish religion above many of my own companions of my own nation, and was much more zealous of the traditions of my fathers.
There are only their beliefs and their views and there are the views of the opposition. Yesterday, I read an article about Zealots in New York City, from the NY Post, removing more words from the English language to further their cause.
“Why do I have issues with Zealots,” you may be asking yourself? Here’s the thing I am looked at as being “white” and my life is based in “whiteness”. It’s a very racist statement.
Why would I say that, well for one thing science has proven repeatedly that there is not a single person living today, or in the 2000’s, or in the 1700’s, or in the 100’s, or in prehistory that are or were “purely” any one culture or race or color. The latest article I read was from the Harvard Gazette.
It was about Geneticist David Reich. Professor Reich said,“No population is, or ever could be, pure. Ancient DNA reveals that the mixing of groups extremely different from each other is a common feature of human nature. We do not live in unusual times; profound events have occurred in our past. We should learn and feel more connected from that.”
Zealots, well some Zealots, would have you believe that purity still exists. Even terms like White, POC, and Indiginous are racist based on the findings by Professor Reich. Looking back through my own genealogy I am not nor, could I be just “white”.
I have the blood of ancestors from each of the six continents that have supported human life. I may have been raised in a small town in downstate Michigan that was predominantly caucasian; I was Not born into a family of racists (not open or closeted). My parents and my Sunday school teachers taught me ‘Jesus Loves Me’ and ‘Jesus Loves the Little Children’.
My pastor growing up who was not “white” taught us in each service that Jesus didn’t look like the Anglo-Saxon image that is still in the window over the front entrance today, of the church building. When he retired our new pastor came from Chicago and he, the new pastor, continued where our retired pastor left off. When I joined the United States Marine Corps I was taught that there is only ‘green’; one of the favorite colors of face paint in the Marines.
Since then I have never seen myself or anyone else as anything other than green. Zealots have said to me that where I grew up, my family structure, even serving in the military ALL make me racist. The reason behind this post is actually the fact that the Zealots want words removed or changed to fit their perception of the way the world is to be. Removing words, redefining words, or changing words making them derogatory and discriminatory may not seem like such a bad thing.
How about we create new words to replace old words. That way people can still be people. And we can still have some standard of normalcy in our life.
Making something illegal is only going to cause more people to want to use it. Is that hard to understand? Look at the history of marijuana or alcohol.
